Default RIP NASA

Ares wasn't going great but instead of a reform they killed the whole program.

I think he's refering to Obama's budget proposal including killing the manned moon missions.

Ah yeah, I heard they were privatizing it instead - which actually could maybe speed up the process...

One of my favorite musicians, Leslie Fish, wrote this song after watching the Moon Landing...

This pretty much spits all over that...

Worse, it won't really help anything. You could have taken the entire yearly budget for NASA, and spent it every day for the next twenty five YEARS, and still not be more than a drop in the bucket of the amount Obama has spent in the last year.

So yea... thanks for killing our hopes of spreading to the stars, Obama. Our children won't.

Oh, and here's a link to Time Magazine's article on it: Obama Budget Plan Grounds NASA

I find it humorous the same people bitching about this are the same people bitching about the cost of the Health Care reform.

Government spending is government spending... I'm not happy with the budget cuts here for NASA - but I don't understand why the same people would be upset over this that are about spending money on health care. You can't have it both ways.

No, I was bitching about the way he was going about his so-called' health care reform', not the price.

Besides, you are missing a mater of scale. The NASA budget is less than one tenth of one percent of what he's spent in the past year. A drop in the bucket.

Saving money is saving money though right?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

Guess excessive government spending is ok as long as it's a fraction of government spending elsewhere.

I didn't bitch about health care reform.

I'm also dissatisfied that obama promised more money for space research in his campaign and now he's cutting it.

Oh no, he did increase funding to NASA... it's all just being funneled into special interest groups which helped him get elected. Technically, he kept his word on that one...

He did increase money on space research - he campaigned for it to go through the private sector.

Not quite what I had in mind. The private sector was doing alright without that aid.

I was looking through his campaign promises and there was nothing in there that you're trying to refer to.

Well I didn't comment on that as I felt it was slightly OT and didn't want to open that can of worms. But since you did - I have to agree with you to some degree but it can be shown that Space Flight has a military/defense interest involved which is completely a Constitutional responsibility of the Federal government so as it applies to that it is completely justified. The global warming emphasis Obama is now pushing isn't.

Apparently Obama changed his mind and reached a compromise

In other words, even his OWN party complained about that.

Glad to hear we're back in business.

I was hoping "we choose to go to Mars by 2020" but this will do... I guess.
